Boston’s Population Continues to Grow, Moves Past 625,000
Today the U.S. Census Bureau announced that Boston’s population continues to grow. According to census numbers compiled between April 2010 and July 2011, the City of Boston’s population has increased to 625,087 from 617,594 reported in the 2010 census. The 1.2 percent increase represents 7,493 people and is double the Massachusetts average growth rate over that time period.
“Boston is an attractive city and the numbers prove that,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. “Our growing housing stock, our new jobs, and our strong neighborhoods continue to attract people to our great city.”
